CHANGING CITIES
Submission to 45 SYMBOLS - The Phaistos Project
The intended goal of these forms is to create a structure of symbols that represent the transition from urban development to smart cities. The symbols should represent a city personally and convey how it is changing or what it is capable of at that moment.
WHAT IS A SMART CITY?
A smart city is an urban development that focuses on making a city more internally and externally connected, with the main goal of reducing the carbon footprint, increasing efficiency, and promoting connectedness within society.
WHY WERE THESE DESIGN CHOICES MADE?
The symbols were stylized to reflect how a city evolves over time through urban development, which is a combination of buildings, businesses, and groups of people. The city is the focal point of the symbols and is represented in the center to emphasize its importance. As a city progresses, it expands outward. The symbols are intended to be easily identified, with the navigation symbol resembling a compass and the recycling symbol playing with the iconic recycling symbol we see today.
